Confocal Microscopy and Imaging Sales Representative (East Bay Area)

Job Description:

To strengthen microscopy and imaging sales in the East Bay and confocal sales in N. Cal & N. Nevada, Technical Instruments is seeking an experienced Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Specialist. 

Overall Summary:

The Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Specialist objective is to maintain and generate new sales in existing and targeted accounts in the assigned territory. Primary objective is to increase volume and market share of Technical Instruments imaging product line and Olympus laser scanning confocals. Initial execution activities to include imaging representative onboarding, product training, market education, POS merchandising, sales consultation, new product introduction and usage, customer training, and system support. Thereafter, Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Specialist  is responsible for demonstrating a high level of proficiency in optical microscopy, biological research applications, selling, relationship building and maintaining, presentation skills. He/she should also be able to master and utilize the latest selling, presentation and sales productivity software to achieve territory sales targets, call cycle development, planning, tracking, and expense management.

Job Responsibilities:

- Successfully execute and deliver against the annual territory sales targets 

- Develop efficient and effective territory plans in collaboration with sales manager and marketing group

- Plan, schedule, coordinate and conduct on-site and in-house sales and training for customers.

- Present compelling technical sales presentations customized to each customer as necessary to gain commitment to evaluate or purchase

- Actively support marketing campaigns on a local and regional basis.

- Exhibit professionalism and strong business ethics while representing Technical Instruments and the manufacturers it represents.

- Gathers, summarizes and communicates qualitative market feedback and competitive intelligence on a bi- weekly/monthly basis to Sales Manager. 

- Be able to comprehend, use, and demonstrate technical equipment

- Cultivate relationships with key customers including primary investigators, department chairs, imaging core managers in academia and management in industry. 

- Ensure full utilization and compliance of CRM including contact records, visit reports, scheduling and meeting notes.

- Prepare expense reports on a bi-weekly or monthly basis

- Minimal travel

- Troubleshoot hardware and software problems

- Work with lasers

- Lift items over 50lbs

Perform additional tasks as requested.


- Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences field

- Experience in field sales, training or sales support a definite plus

- Experience with laser scanning confocal a definite plus

- Optical sales experience preferred

- Excellent written and verbal communication

- Interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical and computer skills required

- Experience with or other CRM preferred
